A Year in the Life of a Simulation Centre

Exhausted, frayed around the edges, elated, proud, and humbled. These are just some of the emotions I feel after The Centre for Simulation and Patient Safety delivered its final course of 2013. The journey we have been on since 2010 has been relentless, and in the last twelve months we have pushed ourselves to the limits (and I am sure the team would tell you beyond our limits on a fair few occasions).

It took a trip to this year's ASPiH conference in Harrogate to make me realise just how far we have come. CSPS took its biggest ever delegation to the event, and was able to share its work in a Pre conference workshop, three excellent poster presentations, and an oral presentation. Oh and I should also say we walked away with the prize for best simulated moustache (Well the conference did take place during Movember!). Well done Dr Louise Schofield who epitomised the spirit of CSPS by being the only female entrant.

Barriers, limits and expectations are just challenges to the team at the centre, and they take great pleasure in rising to, and ultimately overcoming them. There is a real pioneering spirit at CSPS. I would suggest it is our greatest quality. We are not afraid to fail. We know we learn as much from failure as we do from success, and we embrace the new and the difficult.

As we look forward to 2014 with excitement and optimism, we are also proud to look back on a hugely successful year. Please enjoy this video of montage of a year in our lives. We have toiled to produce every photo in this video, sweated to deliver first class simulation in our region, but we have loved every minute.

I couldn't conclude this blog without paying tribute to the CSPS team who have worked incredibly hard in 2013. I am so proud of you all.

Have a great Christmas and a safe and happy New Year
